Do you think a Japanese company might be acquired by Sony in the future?

When I asked our followers in the last Gamer Opinions episode a question “Did Sony make a good choice in acquiring Bungie”, the majority of opinions agreed that they wished Sony had bought another company, and indeed Jim Ryan revealed that they have not finished the acquisitions yet, after which a report was issued stating that Sony now has $10 billion to spend on acquisitions.

Who will Sony spend all those billions on? Many believe that the next time when Sony goes to a few developers, it will go this time to its home country Japan in order to re-establish its influence there, especially after the emergence of studies that say that the strength of the PlayStation brand is declining in Japan.

Sony's approach to Japanese companies would be a good choice because Microsoft is difficult to penetrate that market, so there is no competitor that pays more for Sony there, as some suggest that Sony paid too much for Bungie, and I mean Michael Buckter's words, as he considered that the value of Sony's acquisition of Bungie "Exaggerated" that Sony rushed the deal after Microsoft announced its acquisition of Activision and agreed to pay a lot more than Microsoft probably paid when it tried to acquire Bungie for $2 billion.

In Japan, there will be no competitor, as I said, who can pay more than her, as well as she will gain by strengthening her position in her home country, and speaking of who Sony can acquire there, the discussions among the players revolve around 4 big names who could be the huge gem that will set the crown of studios PlayStation in the future.

Kojima Productions

Sony, unlike Microsoft, does not seem to be looking for titles behind acquisitions, but rather looking for creators who can give it titles that it misses. Hence, instead of buying the demanded Konami fans could lure Kojima as he is able to create stealth titles that Sony really misses like Metal Gear or revive Sony's own horror titles that could replace Silent Hill.

The only problem here may be that Kojima does not have previous game titles that Sony can benefit from, but as I said, it will benefit from his experiences in developing games and inventing crazy ideas, as well as taking advantage of Kojima's fondness and love for the field of cinematic films and who knows maybe we will see a movie directed by Kojima and produced Sony if that acquisition took place.

Capcom

After Sony acquired the EVO Championship, it needs someone to offer it an ancient fighting game that is better than Capcom and the Street Fighter series, and we should not forget that Capcom has titles that are very popular among players such as Resident Evil, Devil May Cry and Monster Hunter, each of them worth millions of dollars. Capcom is currently valued at around $5 billion, according to Yahoo Finance, so we think buying it would be a lucrative deal without a doubt.

FromSoftware

Sony usually prefers to take over a studio they've worked with before, and Miyazaki had huge hits with it with Demon's Souls and Bloodborne, so an acquisition of FromSoftware is possible on paper. We have previously heard that Sony and the owner of From Software are making an alliance with the capital to acquire new titles, one of their goals, by buying Sony 2% of the company's shares.

According to Kadowaka, it will benefit from this investment in order to develop and strengthen its gaming and anime division, acquire new titles, as well as strengthen existing titles, taking advantage of Sony's strength and position in the markets and industry. Also, this cooperation will improve game development operations, expand Kadowaka's business in the fields of games and anime, and enhance its position and presence in global markets. It will benefit from the PlayStation and Crunchyroll fan base to expand its investments more and more. Who knows, maybe Sony decides to buy more to own the largest share of the shares, or it will be a complete takeover.
